Ah yes, the annual post-holiday haze, where the clock strikes midnight and all of a sudden your friends are doing weird things like just eating vegetables or signing up for gym memberships. We’ve all fallen victim to brand new mental health, but this year I tried to figure out one small change I could make rationally. That’s what I learned about the Apple Cider Vinegar everyday challenge.
It’s not something as intense as Whole 30, it’s not a cleansing, and the Lord knows I won’t do dry in January, but I want something I can do every day that will nourish me, and this is the perfect solution. Before chugging my usual gallon and a half of coffee, I combine 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar daily with lukewarm water and lemon juice.
Throughout the month I went ahead and added spice/mixer variations in there to make it more bearable, but I continued to do this face ALL. SINGLE. TIME
It starts
The first three days were horrible. I will set my cup of water, lemon juice, and apple cider vinegar daily, then continue to chase it right away using mouthwash.
The next 5 days are a learning curve. I started experimenting with the ‘recipe’ given to me and added spices like Turmeric and Cayenne, which made the drink an unattractive colour. Nonetheless, I persisted.
One day I added Kombucha, and the next I decided to throw in some orange juice. Although I wasn’t able to enjoy the taste, it became manageable to drink through the things I added to it.
Day 9 I read this article about taking only two tablespoons in the shot format: it’s the worst idea ever. I commend the author for doing so, but I felt dissatisfied my whole day after a non-dilute version of this very strong drink hit my stomach.
The middle
On day 10 I went to the west coast and found a pre-mixed drink sold by Bragg’s that was the same recipe I used. I bought 7 days’ worth of those. The two flavours I found were Concord Grape – Açai (pictured below), and ginger.

The end
Days 18-25 I tried bravely to find a cocktail recipe that incorporated ACV but try as much as possible, I couldn’t. I tried mixing it with whiskey, ginger beer, tequila (which was particularly awful), and champagne at lunch.
For the last six days of the challenge, the process was surprisingly seamless. I’ve got the task of drinking it in the morning, before brushing my teeth, and from there I’ll make my day as usual. But I will still make this face.
Results
While I’m busy focusing on how much to drink, it works for me. Without changing anything (diet, exercise, skincare) I was less damaged, I felt more energetic during my day and my workout, and I found myself leaving with a midnight snack a lot. night.
This is just the tip of the iceberg, there are tons of benefits to Apple Cider Vinegar, and drinking even small amounts each day can make a huge difference to your body. Plus, if you have leftovers, here are a few more ways you can use ACV around the house
